Year 8 Science

Year 8 Science students reflect upon their experiences in 2019:

Student from 8A:

I have had a very fun and productive year in my science classes. The experiments which took place in the science lab, were probably the most enjoyable experiences for me as well as my whole class. All of the lessons we had were filled with enthusiasm and enjoyment. I am hoping that next year, would be the same as this year in terms of productivity as well as having fun.

Students in 8B:

Science class is really good and helpful to me.

I don’t get distracted and learn much better than last years. I suggest excursions for science to educate us and make science more interesting. My teacher is good and helps me well enough. My experience in science is good.

I personally enjoyed science class in 2019. I enjoyed all the practical assessments I did in the science lab because we performed very interesting experiments in which I wanted to know the outcome. The most amusing lab experiment for me was the sheep heart dissection. It was very interesting to see things I learnt in class in real life. We didn’t have any incursions or excursions, but all the lab work and interactive class learning made up for it. When learning about respiration and the human heart, I found an interactive activity we did in the computer lab very educational. This year, we had multiple presentations. I enjoy standing up in front of a group of people and presenting something. I specifically enjoyed a presentation I did on volcanic rocks. I enjoyed that one specifically because we were told to not have any text or cue cards to read, instead we had to remember and present it that way. Overall, my learning experience for science class this year was very educational and allowed me to enjoy the subject.

Students in 8C:

Since I came halfway through term 1 I can only write about my experiences since then. The science classes were interesting and fun. Most of the science classes were amazing. We occasionally went to the science lab and watched videos that were related to the work we were doing. We did presentations and posters. There were challenging tests to take. The teaching and learning experience was great.

Throughout Term 1 to Term 4 has been enjoyable (mostly). I believe that the videos really enhanced the class and people understood what we couldn’t understand from the book. The experiments were a little simple but fun all the same.

Year 9/10 Boys Regional Table Tennis Team

A big congratulations to the four students who represented Sirius College in the Year 9/10 Boys State Table Tennis Tournament on Thursday the 17th of October. The team has earned the right to compete in the state competition after winning the Northern Metro Regional tournament.

On the day our boys stood up under gruelling pressure from their talented opponents, Ilim College and Epping High. Both of these encounters saw the boys win both their matches on a points countback. This result highlighted how important each point was and all our students competed to the highest level to achieve the win. The boys comfortably won the other matches they were a

The group will compete in the State tournament at the end of November; where they will be in contention to become the 2019 State Champions.

The members of the team are:
